Bayramov, Fidan discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process during a phone conversation.

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bayramov informed Fidan in detail about the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including “its various aspects, the current state of affairs, prospects for a peace agreement, and the challenges that remain. He also outlined the efforts made to overcome these obstacles,” Minval.az reported.

The ministers also addressed issues stemming from the strategic partnership between Turkey and Azerbaijan, their cooperation in international and regional organizations, and the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.

In addition, they exchanged views on regional and global security concerns.

During a recent international media forum, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expanded on the so-called "Zangezur corridor" narrative, declaring that “Azerbaijani cargo and citizens should not encounter Armenian border guards or anyone else” and that Azerbaijan considers this route a secure, unrestricted link between its territories. He added that there would be no “operators, leases, or rentals” on Azerbaijani land. Aliyev claimed this issue was also raised during a meeting with Armenia’s Prime Minister in Abu Dhabi.

In response, Armenian Prime Minister’s spokesperson Nazeli Baghdasaryan stated that Armenia has never discussed, is not discussing, and will not discuss “the terminology mentioned by the Azerbaijani president or its implied logic.” She added that Aliyev’s assertion that Azerbaijanis should not encounter Armenian border guards contradicts the context of the discussions.
