Erdogan chairs meeting on South Caucasus issues

Ankara includes Yerevan-Baku relations in high-level national security agenda.

Armenia-Azerbaijan relations were included in the agenda of Turkey's fourth National Security Council meeting of the year, held on July 30 under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to the pro-government "Türkiye Gazetesi", the agenda also features "periodically increasing tensions" between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus, reports Ermenihaber.am.

The meeting addressed several major issues, including the disarmament process of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which Turkey considers a terrorist organization, recent developments in Syria, the Russia-Ukraine war, and discussions around acquiring Eurofighter jets from Europe.

On July 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met in Abu Dhabi to discuss various aspects of normalizing interstate relations. The sides reaffirmed that bilateral negotiations are the most effective format for addressing all issues related to normalization and agreed to continue the results-oriented dialogue. The meeting lasted five hours.
