Rubio, Barrot discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan peace efforts

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. According to the U.S. State Department, the two officials discussed several key international matters, including ensuring peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

During the call, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to preventing Iran from developing or acquiring nuclear weapons.

They also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, efforts toward a ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Speculation is circulating about a possible meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Washington on Friday. It is reported that Yerevan and Baku may announce their intention to sign a peace agreement. The Armenian government’s press office has neither confirmed nor denied reports in the media and on social networks about Pashinyan’s possible visit to the U.S.
