Trump says Pashinyan, Aliyev to sign peace deal

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that on August 8 he will host Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House for a historic peace summit, where the two leaders will formally sign a peace agreement. Trump shared the news on his Truth Social account.

“I am pleased to host President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia tomorrow at the White House for a historic peace summit,” Trump said.

He noted that the two countries have been in conflict for many years, with thousands of lives lost. According to Trump, numerous leaders tried to end the war without success—until now.

Trump stressed that his administration had been in contact with both sides for a long time. He confirmed that tomorrow’s meeting will conclude with an official peace signing ceremony at the White House.

“Tomorrow, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan will join me at the White House for the official signing ceremony,” he added.

Trump also announced that the United States will sign bilateral agreements with both countries to promote economic cooperation and unlock the full potential of the South Caucasus region.

“The United States will sign bilateral agreements with both nations to develop economic opportunities together, enabling us to fully unlock the potential of the South Caucasus. I am very proud of these brave leaders for doing the right thing for the great peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan. This will be a historic day for Armenia, Azerbaijan, the United States, and the entire world,” Trump wrote.

On August 8, President Trump will host Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House. Separate meetings will be followed by a trilateral discussion.
