Aliyev says formal signing of peace deal should not take long

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, speaking in Washington after a trilateral meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump—where a joint declaration was signed—said that the process of formally finalizing the peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan should not require much time, Minval.az reported.

“I think there is no need to lose time. Considering that Azerbaijan and Armenia have already initialed the peace agreement, its official signing should not take long,” Aliyev told Azerbaijani media in Washington.

On August 8, during the White House trilateral meeting between Pashinyan, Trump, and Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed summarizing the results of the Washington talks. In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., also initialed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
