Turkey has welcomed the progress achieved on the path to establishing lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as “the will expressed in Washington on August 8.”
In a statement posted on X, referring to the trilateral arrangements reached in Washington between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Turkish MFA said:
“This step, taken amid escalating international conflicts and crises, is an extremely important development for ensuring regional peace and stability. We highly value the contribution of the U.S. administration to this process.
A historic opportunity has emerged to bring peace and prosperity to the South Caucasus. Turkey will continue to contribute to efforts to realize this opportunity and to support Azerbaijan’s dedicated efforts.”
On August 8, during the trilateral meeting at the White House between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed summarizing the results of the Washington talks. In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., also initialed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
