France backs call to dissolve OSCE Minsk Group structures

The French Foreign Ministry said France welcomes the statement made in Washington under the auspices of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the agreement aimed at normalizing relations between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, 1lurer.am reported.

“The results achieved with U.S. participation mark a decisive step forward. The swift signing and ratification of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan will complete this process. In this context, France supports the parties’ joint call to begin the process of dismantling the OSCE Minsk Group structures.

Normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the development of regional connectivity, and the reopening of borders—while respecting states’ territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the principles set out in the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration—should enable the South Caucasus to become a zone of peace and prosperity for the benefit of the region’s peoples. Together with its European partners, France will continue to actively contribute to this goal, particularly within the framework of the European Political Community,” the statement read.

The OSCE Minsk Group was established in 1992 to facilitate the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Along with France, its co-chairs are the United States and Russia.
