Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran has always maintained close and constructive ties with its South Caucasus neighbors, particularly Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He noted that discussions on the signing of a peace agreement with Armenia have been ongoing for some time and are not a new matter. In earlier talks, both sides were urged to accelerate the signing, as it could become a turning point for strengthening peace and stability in the Caucasus, Mehr News reported.
Baghaei announced that on August 12, senior Iranian and Armenian officials will hold high-level consultations to better assess current developments and communicate Iran’s observations and concerns to the Armenian side.
He stressed that Iran values good-neighborly relations based on mutual interests and has consistently maintained contact with these countries to discuss issues that directly or indirectly affect Iran.
Earlier, the Armenian prime minister discussed peace and cooperation with the Iranian president, presenting the results of the August 8 Washington talks and stressing that regional routes will function within the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity.
