Macron reaffirms France’s support for Armenia

French President Emmanuel Macron shared details on X about his phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Macron reiterated France’s full support for Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating: “I welcomed the agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan thanks to U.S. commitment. I hope this agreement will swiftly lead to the signing and ratification of a peace treaty that respects the interests of both sides. I reaffirmed my complete support for Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as France’s commitment to peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus.”

He added that following Pashinyan’s visit to Paris on July 14, both sides had agreed to continue deepening bilateral relations in all areas.

On August 8, a trilateral meeting at the White House brought together Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the three leaders, initialed the “Agreement on Establishing Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
