U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated during a press briefing that the signing of a peace declaration between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a major achievement in international diplomacy and affirms that U.S. President Donald Trump is truly a president of peace.
“The peace declaration between Armenia and Azerbaijan has reaffirmed that President Trump is truly the peace president. Last week, he hosted the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House, where they signed a historic joint peace declaration after decades of intense conflict and great human losses. This is a remarkable diplomatic achievement and a cessation of violence that only President Trump could have made possible,” said the spokesperson, as reported by Armenpress.
Bruce recalled that on August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also signed bilateral economic agreements with the United States, “unlocking the vast potential of the South Caucasus region in trade, transit, energy, infrastructure, and technology, and creating new opportunities for the American people and U.S. businesses.”
The spokesperson was also asked to comment on statements from Iran and Russia, which have not fully supported this peace plan.
“The world knows President Trump must be taken seriously. This agreement matters to him. They [i.e., the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan] were in the White House. This is important to the administration. It matters to the world,” Bruce said.
She emphasized that while European leaders, including the French, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and even former U.S. President Joe Biden had all tried to resolve the decades-long conflict, “only President Trump has successfully brought these two nations to this historic peace.”
“So I believe the world understands he is committed to long-term, sustainable peace between nations—regardless of how long the conflicts or hostilities have lasted,” the spokesperson concluded, adding that Trump will do whatever it takes to end wars.
On August 8, a trilateral meeting took place at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, culminating in the signing of a joint declaration based on the Washington discussions. In the presence of the three leaders, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov preliminarily signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
