Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated during an interview with Fox News during his visit to the United States that the agreement reached on the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” is not aimed against any country but is set to become one of the important links in international transportation routes.
“For any country in our region or beyond, it would be difficult to speak negatively about today’s achievement. Essentially, today we’ve made the final step toward establishing peace,” he said, according to 1news.az.
In the interview, Aliyev expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his team for their role in reaching the agreement.
He also discussed relations with Russia and addressed the incident involving the downing of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 in December 2024. Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan does not consider the event a deliberate attack.
“Our only demand was to acknowledge the fact, punish those responsible, and provide full compensation,” Aliyev said.
On August 8, a trilateral meeting was held at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, resulting in a joint declaration outlining the outcomes of the Washington talks. In the presence of the leaders, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov preliminarily signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
