Azerbaijan seeks peace but must remain vigilant and prepared for military scenarios due to unpredictable global developments, President Ilham Aliyev said.
“We don’t want war. We want peace, but we must be ready for war at any time,” he stated.
Aliyev said that the unpredictability of global processes means Azerbaijan must rely on its own strength to ensure security and maintain alertness. According to him, “sources of potential threats” have been observed near Baku, prompting active expansion of the country's military capacity.
He noted that Azerbaijan has acquired modern drones and new artillery systems. Contracts have been signed for new fighter jets, and existing aircraft have been upgraded.
On August 8, during a trilateral meeting at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed summarizing the results of the talks in Washington.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., preliminarily signed an agreement on the establishment of peace and inter-state relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
