During a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed satisfaction that the two had the opportunity to meet, noting that many topics had accumulated for discussion, including those related to Russian-Armenian relations and the broader regional situation.
He added that he hoped the conversation, held within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, would be substantive and beneficial for both sides, according to RIA Novosti.
“Very glad to see you and to have this opportunity to speak during today’s and tomorrow’s events. It’s been a while since we last met. A lot of issues have piled up—bilateral, regional, international. I hope today’s meeting will be useful and substantial. Happy to see you,” Putin said at the start of the meeting.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the conversation between President Putin and Prime Minister Pashinyan took place face-to-face. He noted that the two leaders held a private discussion on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is being held in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1, with more than 20 foreign heads of state in attendance, including the Russian president, along with representatives of various international organizations.
