Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope for the success of ongoing negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stressing that stability in the Caucasus is vital to both Ankara and Moscow.
The statement came following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, according to a release from the Turkish presidency.
“President Erdogan expressed hope that negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia would lead to lasting peace, noting that long-term stability in the Caucasus serves the common interests of Turkey and Russia,” the statement said, as quoted by Armenpress.
The meeting also covered bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.
Within the SCO summit framework, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also met with President Erdogan, where both sides stressed the importance of steps toward peace and stability in the region.
