The Acting Chairperson of the OSCE, Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, and OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu have welcomed the OSCE Ministerial Council’s decision to dissolve the Minsk Group and its affiliated structures, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The organization published its official statements.
“I would like to once again extend my warm congratulations to Armenia and Azerbaijan on the historic agreements regarding peace and normalization of relations, and their resolute decision to begin swift implementation. I immediately responded to their joint appeal and sincerely thank both sides for their excellent cooperation in the process,” said Valtonen.
She emphasized the cooperative spirit shown by the participating countries, which led to mutual understanding. According to the announcement, the decision was adopted by consensus among all 57 OSCE member states.
“This is a historic development that demonstrates what diplomacy can achieve—even after decades of conflict and mistrust. It shows that agreement is possible when there is determination to find common ground,” added Sinirlioğlu.
Both the OSCE Chair and Secretary General reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable and lasting peace—not only between Armenia and Azerbaijan but across the entire region.
On August 8, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan preliminarily signed the “Treaty on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” in Washington, which includes a joint request for the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group and its related structures.
Under the adopted resolution, the Minsk Group will be formally dissolved by December 1, 2025.
