Turkey pledges continued backing for regional peace efforts

Turkey’s Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anar Aliyev, commented on the August 8 pre-signing of the Armenia–Azerbaijan agreement in Washington, calling it a historic step that has significantly raised expectations for peace and stability in the region. He shared this via a post on X.

“We will continue to support the regional peace process and the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations,” Yilmaz said, as reported by Ermenihaber.

He also referred to the recently signed declaration with Azerbaijan—concluded in the occupied city of Shushi—stating that it opened new prospects for deepening bilateral alliance relations.

“New horizons are opening up in areas such as the economy, social policy, and regional cooperation,” he added.

On August 8, a tripartite meeting took place at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, culminating in a joint declaration outlining the outcomes of the Washington talks.

In the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov preliminarily signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations Between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
