In a message addressed to participants of the 13th conference of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia think tanks, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev spoke about the importance of the so-called “Zangezur corridor”, which he continues to describe as a transcontinental link — despite its branding as the “Trump Route” project.
“I have no doubt that the Zangezur corridor, as one of the routes of the Middle Corridor, will soon play an important role in connecting continents,” Aliyev said, according to APA.
He noted that Azerbaijan, located at the crossroads of East–West and North–South routes, has “rapidly turned into one of the central transport and logistics hubs of the Eurasian space.”
In Washington, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States — Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump — officially reached an agreement to launch the Trump Route.
“The route will allow Azerbaijan to access Nakhichevan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia, in turn, is establishing an exclusive partnership with the U.S. to develop this corridor, with an agreement extendable up to 99 years and renewable for another 99 years. Major infrastructure developments are expected, and American companies are eager to invest heavily in the region, which will bring economic benefits to all three countries,” Trump said.
