Erdogan says normalization with Armenia continues

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during his address at the United Nations General Assembly that the normalization process between Ankara and Yerevan is ongoing.

He also expressed satisfaction with the steps taken on August 8 this year, which he believes will contribute to establishing lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to Armenpress.

"I would like to once again congratulate President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, as well as U.S. President Donald Trump, for their contributions to this process. I would also like to note that the normalization of relations between our country and Armenia is proceeding as planned," Erdogan said.

On August 8, a trilateral meeting took place at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, where a joint declaration was signed summarizing the outcomes of their discussions in Washington.

During the same meeting, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of their national leaders and the U.S. President, initialed an agreement titled “On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
