Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan during his address at the United Nations General Assembly, Kaztag reports.
“We also welcome the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia through the mediation of the U.S. President. This proves that even long-standing conflicts can be resolved through diplomacy and sound reasoning,” he stated.
Tokayev also called for reform within the United Nations and proposed the creation of a working group to develop concrete reform measures.
He emphasized the need to reform the UN Security Council, suggesting that large nations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America should be represented on a rotational basis.
*On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a trilateral meeting at the White House, resulting in a Joint Declaration.
During the same event, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the three leaders, preliminarily signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”*
