Boris Avakian found dead in Armenian consulate in St. Petersburg

Boris Avakian, former deputy head of Russia’s Rosreestr office in St. Petersburg and once a special envoy of the Artsakh president, was found dead in the Armenian Consulate in St. Petersburg after escaping from a court session, RIA Novosti reports, citing law enforcement sources.

According to Telegram channels, Avakian locked himself inside a restroom, where he allegedly took his own life. Emergency services broke down the door and discovered his body.

Avakian was accused in Russia of evading customs duties. The day before, he had fled a court hearing and sought refuge inside the Armenian Consulate.

On September 23, Avakian had contacted Pastinfo, saying he was ready to surrender to the Armenian authorities in connection with the ongoing criminal case.
