U.S. official: strengthening peace reveals South Caucasus potential

Amy Carlson, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Azerbaijan, stated that the peace agreement initiative promoted at the White House on August 8 marks a bold new chapter for the South Caucasus, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The American diplomat emphasized that the United States remains committed to securing lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“By strengthening this path to peace, we are unlocking the tremendous potential of the South Caucasus as a center of trade, transit, and energy,” Carlson said. “This forms the foundation for our future economic cooperation.”

On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House summarizing the results of their trilateral meeting.

During the same visit, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of their respective leaders and the U.S. President, preliminarily signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
