Turkey’s security council discusses ties with Armenia

On September 30, Turkey’s National Security Council, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, discussed the ongoing normalization process between Ankara and Yerevan. The topic was highlighted in the council’s official statement, as reported by Caliber.az.

During the meeting, participants particularly emphasized the importance of establishing a transport connection between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. According to the council, such a link would ensure uninterrupted transit and bring benefits to all countries in the region.

The statement also referred to both Armenia and Azerbaijan’s aspirations to reach a final peace agreement.

During the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, asserting that the term “Zangezur Corridor” is interpreted as a territorial claim against Armenia. He stressed that despite the Washington Declaration affirming peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, significant challenges remain, and Aliyev’s rhetoric undermines the logic of peacebuilding.
