Аliyev says Azerbaijan will push peace forward

On October 2, during a meeting in Copenhagen with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that “Azerbaijan and Armenia have already adapted to peaceful life” and that “Azerbaijan will continue advancing peace initiatives.”

He added that the progress on the peace agenda holds historical significance for the entire region, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to APA.

Costa and von der Leyen congratulated Aliyev on the recent progress in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan achieved in Washington, expressing hope it would lay the foundation for lasting regional peace. They reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting peace efforts and emphasized the importance of developing regional transport links.

Participants in the meeting agreed there are serious prospects for deepening cooperation and elevating relations between Azerbaijan and the EU to a new level.

On August 8, during a trilateral meeting at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed summarizing the outcomes of the Washington talks.

In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., preliminarily signed the agreement “On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
