Ruben Vardanyan, the former State Minister of Artsakh who is being prosecuted in Baku on fabricated charges, has dismissed his defense attorney.
At a court session on October 21, Vardanyan filed a motion requesting a confidential meeting with his lawyer, Abraham Berman, APA reports.
The court approved the request and called a short recess, after which Vardanyan announced his decision to dismiss his attorney.
He justified his decision by expressing general dissatisfaction with the overall course of the trial.
During the discussion of the motion, Vusal Aliyev, Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, stated that the defendant has the right to refuse legal representation. The court granted the motion.
Vardanyan noted that he does not have an agreement with another attorney and does not object if the state appoints one for him.
The trial has been postponed. The next session is scheduled for October 28.
Ruben Vardanyan’s case is being tried separately from that of the other Armenian prisoners of war.
