Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the United States, Khazar Ibrahim, stated that the agreement signed in Washington in August between Armenia and Azerbaijan marks a historic breakthrough. Speaking at the “The U.S. in the South Caucasus: Unlocking New Strategic Opportunities” forum, he described the deal as a crucial step forward that creates new opportunities for all parties involved.
According to Ibrahim, Azerbaijan is ready to fully utilize and build on the potential created by the agreement. He noted that President Ilham Aliyev has lifted all restrictions on the transit of goods through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia.
“I believe Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan also welcomed this, and joint steps may follow. Back in the early 1990s, we tried to convey that cooperation would benefit everyone — only now is that becoming reality,” he added.
He emphasized that this progress has been achieved with the significant support of the U.S. and other international partners.
President Aliyev had previously announced the lifting of restrictions on Armenian cargo during a press statement alongside Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Yerevan welcomed the move.
