Russian cargo may reach Armenia via Azerbaijan

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated that Azerbaijan has agreed to allow the transit of Russian goods to Armenia through its territory

"The Azerbaijani side confirmed that its railways can be used for the transit of Russian cargo to Armenia. There has been noticeable progress in this direction," Overchuk said, according to TASS.

He added that Russian Railways is now working with regional partners to coordinate the logistical and organizational aspects. The Ministry of Agriculture has also received instructions to adapt to this new route.

Previously, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the lifting of previous restrictions on cargo transit through Armenia. The first such shipment is expected to be Kazakh grain, to be delivered via the Aktau–Baku route and then by rail through Georgia, according to Armenia’s Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan.
