U.S. to launch Armenia, Azerbaijan working groups by year-end

The U.S. government intends to establish its first working groups with Armenia and Azerbaijan before the end of the year, according to a statement from the State Department cited by Report.az .

Washington emphasized its commitment to advancing the historic declarations and memorandums of understanding signed during the August 8 trilateral meeting at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"The U.S. remains committed to implementing the historic joint declarations and MOUs signed in Washington on August 8, and will facilitate the creation of the first working groups with both governments by the end of the year," the Department of State said.

It positively assessed recent developments between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting progress in border delimitation talks, demining, and infrastructure support for the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project.

Washington also welcomed Azerbaijan’s decision to allow cargo transit through its territory to Armenia, and noted the recent meeting between civil society representatives of the two countries in Yerevan.

"Under U.S. leadership, these initiatives—combined with the ongoing bilateral efforts—are expected to attract private investment and usher in a new era of prosperity for Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the broader region," the statement added.

During the August 8 summit at the White House, the leaders of Armenia, the U.S., and Azerbaijan signed a joint declaration. Simultaneously, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan preliminarily signed an agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between the two countries.
