Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili stated that the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project, launched after a peace summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan mediated by Donald Trump, presents new opportunities for the whole region and will help reinforce the Middle Corridor.
“This is important for promoting competition and offering the best conditions for carriers, making our corridor even more attractive. Competition strengthens this process,” Papuashvili said, according to Sputnik Georgia.
He added that an additional route in the South Caucasus signals regional stability, which in turn attracts new investments.
“This alone sends a message about regional stability, which will increase all types of investment, both in corridor infrastructure and in various sectors across the region. We welcome this initiative as it will be beneficial for the entire region,” he said.
The Middle Corridor was established in February 2014 with the involvement of leading sea and rail freight companies from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia. The route runs from the China-Kazakhstan border, through Kazakhstan, across the Caspian Sea, and then through Azerbaijan and Georgia to Europe.
Georgia officially joined the Middle Corridor in 2022 at Turkey’s initiative.
The development of transit routes remains a top national priority for the Georgian government, with significant investments underway. Georgia’s transit role is gaining importance, especially due to its free trade agreements with China, Turkey, and the European Union. A major project, the East-West Highway running through Georgia and linking Asia with Europe, is currently under construction.
