Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler stated during a parliamentary budget session that Turkey has made significant progress in strengthening its defense ties with Azerbaijan, particularly in developing the capabilities of the Azerbaijani armed forces, reports RFE/RL.
“We have made significant advances in enhancing the capabilities of Azerbaijan’s armed forces,” Güler said, noting that Turkey continues to provide military training and advisory support to Baku.
He also expressed satisfaction with the peace agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington this August and voiced hope for a swift signing of the final peace deal.
Güler specifically highlighted cooperation in the field of cartography, stating that the General Directorate of Mapping under Turkey’s Ministry of Defense has supported Azerbaijan in producing maps.
“Our advisory and technical support in this field continues,” he added.
According to Minval.az , the minister emphasized that Turkey is deepening bilateral ties with Azerbaijan.
“In the context of restructuring Azerbaijan’s armed forces, we have achieved and continue to achieve significant progress in education, assistance, advisory services, and defense industry cooperation,” Güler concluded.
On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House. Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers initialed a draft agreement titled “On Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
