Archbishop Hovnan Terteryan, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church in North America, has issued a public statement stressing that the Church and the state must not engage in conflict with one another.
He called for a period of deep spiritual reflection, self-examination, and sincere repentance as the first essential step toward healing and renewing both spiritual and national life.
“Because truth is greater than simply being right. As Aristotle said: ‘Plato is dear to me, but truth is dearer.’
The clear truth is that the Church and the state cannot be in battle with each other. Instead, they are obligated to serve the sovereign Republic of Armenia and its people through mutual support.
This is our message. The call for sobriety and the need for renewal compel us, the servants of the Armenian Church, to remain unwavering in our spiritual mission with our whole being.
Therefore, we earnestly urge our beloved faithful to remain firm and unshaken in their faith in Jesus Christ, for He is the way, the truth, and the life, now and forever (John 14:6). Amen,” the statement reads.
Prime Minister Pashinyan recently expressed via Facebook that the results of the Vagharshapat elections were “an important boost to liberate the Mother See” and predicted victory in the 2026 parliamentary elections.
