CSTO chief says Armenia does not block CSTO decisions

CSTO Secretary-General Imangali Tasmagambetov stated that Armenia, although having frozen its participation in the organization’s activities, continues to receive all documents and materials under discussion.

“Yerevan does not participate in discussions, but this does not prevent the adoption of decisions,” Tasmagambetov said, as reported by TASS.

He pointed out that this procedure was followed during the November 27 CSTO Security Council meeting. Armenia received all relevant documents and officially stated that it had no objections to their adoption.

Tasmagambetov expressed optimism, saying: “We are confident that in time, Armenia’s political leadership will make a meaningful decision, and we will move forward together again.”

He emphasized that Armenia’s participation status is frequently raised and remains a key topic in discussions. “Armenia is a sovereign country and has the right to join or suspend its involvement in any organization,” he added.

Although Armenia did not attend CSTO events recently, Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan stated on November 26 that “Armenia is not currently discussing withdrawal from the CSTO.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Yerevan suspended its activity in the bloc, arguing the CSTO had become a source of threats to Armenia’s sovereignty.
