Following the French Senate’s adoption of the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial, Turkey mulls possible sanctions against France including minimization of diplomatic links.
Top Turkish politicians warned France that the government is determined to impose permanent sanctions against Paris while Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said he will never visit France in case the Senate passes the bill.
According to Milliyet daily, Turkey considers recall of its military attaché in Paris, deprivation of accreditation of French military attaché in Ankara and minimization of diplomatic links with France, forbidding participation of French companies in tenders organized by Turkey, blocking Turkish air and marine space for French traffic.
The bill passed the French Senate with 127 votes for and 86 against. It will impose a 45,000 euro fine and a year in prison for anyone in France who publicly denies the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire.
