A statue set at the entrance of Turkish Dumlupınar University hostel was removed for unknown reasons. The marble statue with carved images of a lion and an eagle was meant to symbolize the unity of Turkish nation.
However, Republican People’s Party (CHP) member Oktay Ekşi raised the issue of statue’s removal at parliament, noting that the statue carries resemblance to certain Armenian symbols.
“The animals on the statue are present on Armenia’s coat of arms. Might that be a reason for the statue’s removal?” the parliamentarian questioned, according to Milliyet.
